Measures the force applied by the driver on the brake pedal during the brake dynamometer test — an essential complement for assessing braking efficiency in the vehicle inspection programme.

Pedal force as part of braking efficiency

The brake pedal force cell is a sensor installed on the brake pedal of the vehicle being inspected. During the brake dynamometer test, the cell measures and records the force applied by the driver in real time, which allows the braking efficiency index to be calculated as the ratio between the total braking force (measured on the dynamometer) and the pedal effort applied.

This measurement is required by inspection programmes that adopt the brake effort / pedal force criterion, providing an objective index that reflects both the mechanical condition of the braking system and the driver's effort required to activate it. The data is transmitted automatically to the GIVE system.

How the measurement works

Installation

The force cell is installed on the vehicle's brake pedal immediately before the brake dynamometer test, in a matter of seconds.

Real-time measurement

During the test, the cell measures and transmits the pedal force applied continuously and simultaneously with the dynamometer measurement.

Efficiency index

GIVE calculates the braking efficiency index by combining pedal force with total braking force, and records the result in the report.
